Overview

The GI Effects® Comprehensive Stool Profile is an advanced stool test that provides immediate, actionable clinical information for the management of gastrointestinal health. Utilizing cutting-edge technologies and biomarkers, this profile offers valuable insight into digestive function, intestinal inflammation, and the intestinal microbiome, helping to identify the root cause of many common gastrointestinal symptoms.

What's Tested

The GI Effects profile assesses a wide array of biomarkers to provide a comprehensive picture of gut health. These markers are grouped into three key areas:

  • Digestion and Absorption: Markers such as Pancreatic Elastase-1, Products of Protein Breakdown, and Fecal Fat are measured to assess how well you are digesting and absorbing nutrients from your food.
  • Inflammation and Immunology: This test measures Calprotectin, a key marker for differentiating between IBD and IBS, as well as Eosinophil Protein X for allergic responses, and Fecal Secretory IgA for gut barrier function. It also includes a Fecal Occult Blood Test.
  • Gut Microbiome: A thorough analysis of the gut microbiome is conducted, including the assessment of 24 commensal bacteria genera/species, metabolic indicators like short-chain fatty acids, and cultures for beneficial and pathogenic bacteria and yeast. It also includes comprehensive parasitology testing using both microscopy and PCR technology.

Who Should Order

This test is suitable for individuals experiencing a variety of symptoms that may be related to gut health, including:

  • Chronic digestive issues such as gas, bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or constipation.
  • Suspected Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) or Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
  • Non-GI symptoms such as skin conditions (eczema, atopic dermatitis), autoimmune disorders, mood imbalances, joint pain, and metabolic issues like diabetes or unexplained weight changes.

How It Works

The GI Effects test is designed to be simple and convenient. The process involves an at-home stool collection. A collection kit is shipped directly to your home and contains all the necessary components and instructions. Once the sample is collected, it is sent to the laboratory in a prepaid shipping mailer. Your healthcare provider will receive the results and can then create a personalized treatment plan based on the findings.
